The Power of the Breath

We often think of breathing as something that simply happens while we exercise, but in Pilates, the breath is an important part of the movement itself. The way you breathe can help you connect to your center, create more space in your body, and bring awareness to areas that may be holding unnecessary tension.

One of the things I love about classical Pilates is that the breath is coordinated with the movement rather than treated as an afterthought. When your breath and movement begin to work together, the exercises can feel more connected and purposeful. You may even notice that your shoulders soften, your ribs move more freely, and your body feels a little more organized.

The next time you’re in a session, don’t worry about making your breath perfect. Simply notice it. Sometimes bringing a little more awareness to something as natural as breathing can change the way the entire exercise feels.
