What is Classical Pilates?

Classical Pilates refers to the authentic method created by Joseph Pilates more than 100 years ago. He developed over 500 exercises using six principles: centering, concentration, control, precision, breath and flow, resulting in a complete exercise system that focuses on strengthening the core postural muscles - the abdominals, gluteals and the back. Joseph Pilates referred to these muscles as the "powerhouse". When the powerhouse is strong, everything we do, we do better. Pilates is a practice where movement is integrated with the breath to ultimately create a better mind/body connection. Done in a sequence of low impact movements with few repetitions, the emphasis is on proper alignment, core strength and control.
